Bear Frenzy VII sneaked up on us and now it's history.

Fresno, CA for 3 days (August 17-19, 2001) played gracious host to (estimated) over 100 bears/cubs/admirers, who made this the best Frenzy yet!
Thank you everyone. You worked your butts off and you know you did well. And to all out-of-towners: we'll be seeing you next year!

Your WebCub, Kirk

So - how was it?

I think the two letters I received after the event say it all. The one on the right is from one of the judges, the other below from one of entertainers... And no, I did not make them write these, nor did I pay for them with my sorry ass :) We're all very honoured by your kind words, guys. Thank you for a zillionth time...

What did YOU think of the event? What would you change? What did you especially enjoy and would want to keep? Let us know by e-mail...

Hey gang!

I just wanted to let you guys know that I had a wonderful time in Fresno with y'all. Most of my LA friends were like "Fresno? Ewww! What's up in Fresno?"....I sure found out! A bunch of warm and friendly bears! I had a great time meeting everyone..

I loved the quaintness of The Cave (reminds me of bars back home in Milwaukee)..and I loved how friendly everyone was. No attitude. The pool party was tremendous... great food, great place...fantastic hosts! The contest was a hoot to be a part of as well.

I definitely want to come back next year, whether or not I'm hosting or just participating in the event....the Golden State Bears are getting rave reviews in my book. I will be writing an article for the Bears Ventura Growler or the Bears LA newsletter....so which ever of the two gets to print first, I will send you a copy so you can see how much I gush over Bear Frenzy!!

Thanks again...stay in touch...

Dear Golden State Bears:

I would like to thank all of you for your extraordinary hospitality and friendship during my visit to Fresno for the Bear Frenzy. Before I arrived, I wasn't sure what I was in for. But, it didn't take long to know that I had become immersed in one of the friendliest, most unpretentious or cliquish groups of Bears and Cubs I've ever met.

Next Monday, August 27 (2001), I will return to my daily duties of hosting a talk show on the GAYBC Radio Network. I look forward to sharing with my worldwide audience about my experience with all of you this past weekend. The program is broadcast through the Internet, so if you have a Web connection, you can listen in using RealAudio or Windows Media. The program is live from 4-6 p.m. and is re-run from 10 p.m. to Midnight.

It was a lot of fun to have the privilege of judging the contestants for this year's Mr. Golden State Bear. I want to say that the contestants were great and it was very encouraging to hear so many people convey the spirit of being a leader in the Bear community. You should all be proud of yourselves. I know that Mark will serve your club well. In my job as a media personality in the GLBT community, I attend many functions hosted by a wide range of organizations every year all over the country. But, the kindness and commitment I perceived of vitually everyone I met was second to none. The Golden State Bears ROCK! I hope you'll continue to show the rest of our community just how great you all are, because they should take note and follow in your footsteps!

I can't wait to come back and visit again next year. Until our paths and paws cross again, I hope you'll join me for my program weekdays on GAYBC Radio.

Best wishes,

John McMullen

Boy, was the Cave ever that crowded? Tons (literally!) of bear folk poured in and out of the bar, hungry to greet their future meat! Many people stopped by just to see a few famous faces, who came to Fresno especially for Bear Frenzy!

Question: what do you get when you mix a 100-degree weather, Fresno, and bears wanting fun?
Answer
: One of the GSB's famous Pool Parties! This one was even better, even more crowded with even better food!

I was told that this year's San Francisco bear contest attracted a whopping 3 bears to participate. Guess what - we had 8 - and both quantity and quality were astounding!

Some of us did not stay too late the night before and did manage to get up in time for a very fulfilling, catered breakfast at 10am at the Cave. Once again, good food, good conversation, and some last minute gropes kept us busy for a few hours!
